At the Black Wellness Co-Op, we understand the importance of representation and mentorship in fostering a diverse and inclusive wellness community. This scholarship is designed to not only alleviate financial barriers but also to connect recipients with experienced mentors who can guide them on their journey. By supporting BIPOC individuals, we strive to enrich our communities with wellness programming that resonates on a peer level.

My journey into the health and wellness field started with my own transformation. Through working on myself, I discovered a real passion for helping others feel stronger, move better, and live healthier lives. I also realized that many people, especially within the Black community aren’t always exposed to accessible ways to improve their health, particularly through nutrition. That’s been a big driving force behind what I do.
[My favourite way to move] is a close tie between yoga and kettlebell (functional) training. Both help improve mobility, strength, and overall function and they’ve played a big role in my own hip injury recovery.
Being part of a community means a lot to me. Having been born and raised in the Caribbean, the saying “It takes a village” truly reflects my upbringing. There were so many hands that helped to shape the man I am today. Since moving to Canada in 2018, I’ve had to rebuild that sense of community, and that’s why my mission to bring people together through movement means so much to me.

It all started with our own personal fitness journeys. We wanted to feel better, challenge ourselves, set goals, and achieve them. We saw the importance of a healthier lifestyle.
[As our favourite way to move] we love walking, weightlifting, challenging HIIT workouts, and Pilates.
It's a full-circle moment! We started out hosting fitness classes, now with this scholarship we'll be able to teach our own. This will give us more knowledge and resources and allow us to provide more opportunities for movement within the Black communities.
For us, community means support, love, strength, unity, and empowerment. It's the thread that connects us, woven through each other. Community is where we find our voice, where we stand together, where we celebrate our culture, and uplift one another.

Every week, all year long, this inclusive run club celebrates movement with a 5km or 8km run where the participants meet up every kilometer to make sure no one is left behind. A wonderful way to start your running journey with the joy of community.
